In-App Notifications

Easily access real-time, in-app notifications across key areas of ProductPlan to stay informed on critical platform activity.

Accessing In-App Notifications

In-app notifications can be accessed from the bell icon in the left sidebar menu and can be customized through a centralized settings page, offering greater visibility, collaboration, and engagement across teams. You can toggle between unread notifications and all notifications. Unread notifications will be marked with a blue dot. Clicking on a notification will take you directly to the relevant item (idea, roadmap bar, etc.). You can also mark all notifications as read if desired. Read notifications will be automatically removed after 90 days.

Managing Notification Preferences

Notification preferences can be managed from the Notification Settings page, which is located within the Profile tab in the left sidebar menu. You can also get to the Notification Settings page via the gear icon in the notifications pop-out. This page contains separate areas to personalize your in-app notification preferences, email notifications, and followed items. Under the Preferences tab, you can use the toggles to enable/disable notifications by type and module (idea linked, roadmap date change, or all Roadmap/Discovery notifications).

Under the Email Notifications tab, you can manage your email notification preferences.

Under the Following tab, you can manage the list of items you are following. Use the Unfollow button to unfollow items you are currently following. You can always re-follow items if needed.

Following Items

Follow items to stay informed on important matters without relying on additional tools. Viewers and Editors can follow items as long as they have permission to view them (for example, roadmaps). Owners of objects are automatically considered followers of an item. You can follow roadmap bars and ideas to receive in-app notifications on updates made to those items, and you can control and manage the items you are following from within the Notification Settings page. On a roadmap bar, click the Follow button to start following the bar. To stop following the bar, simply click the Following button to unfollow it.

On an Idea Intake Form, use the Followers dropdown field to define the users that will follow ideas submitted by the form.

FAQs

Is this available on all plans?

This will be available on Enterprise plans only.

Will we introduce additional notifications?

While the initial release focuses on Roadmaps and Discovery, we will be introducing notification support for changes made to Objectives, Opportunities, and Launches in the near future.

What happens if I make many changes to a bar? Will I receive many notifications?

The notifications feature will group together changes made within a short period of time. For example, if a name, description, custom field, and date change were all made to a single roadmap item, you will receive one notification indicating that multiple changes were made to the item instead of receiving separate notifications.

If multiple bars on a single roadmap were updated in quick succession, you will receive one notification indicating multiple changes were made to the roadmap instead of receiving separate notifications.
