You can import your Jira initiatives, epics, and stories directly into your product backlog to place on your roadmap views. The integration is real-time, so updates are automatically reflected to keep Jira and ProductPlan in sync with one another. An Account Admin will configure the integration for the account, including choosing which Jira projects to sync from, and establishing the field mappings for each project. Please see [Setting Up Your Jira Integration](https://support.productplan.com/setting-up-your-jira-integration-0?hsLang=en) for setup instructions.   ### **User Authorization** Once an Account Admin configures the integration for the account, users will need to complete a one-time authorization to their individual Jira connection in order to push updates from ProductPlan to Jira. This ensures changes made in Jira through a bi-directional field are attributed to the correct individual. 1. The system will prompt you to authorize your Jira connection the first time you make a change to a bi-directional field. Click the "Click to try again" link next to the field to initiate pushing the updated value to Jira. First, an Account Admin will need to set up a saved Jira query to import initiatives, epics, and stories from your Jira projects into your product backlog. Please see [Product Settings | Integration Import](https://support.productplan.com/roadmap-data-source-import?hsLang=en) for instructions to complete this step. 2. Once your Jira information has been imported, click on the Backlog tab in the navigation menu to access the backlog. Keep in mind that the backlog is scoped to the product that you are currently operating in. Click into an integrated initiative, epic, or story to open the details drawer. Integrated fields will be indicated with a plug icon. - Fields that sync one-way from Jira to ProductPlan are not editable, and will be updated according to the corresponding mapped field in Jira. - Fields that are enabled for two-way syncing are editable. If you make a change to the field in ProductPlan, the update will automatically push to Jira in real-time. ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-13-03-1022-PM.png?width=670&height=609&name=image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-13-03-1022-PM.png) ### **Adding Integrated Items to Your Roadmap** Whether you are creating a new roadmap, or adding content to an existing roadmap, you can easily place initiatives, epics, and stories from your product backlog onto your roadmap.   1. Click the Backlog Items tab on the right-hand side of your roadmap to open the Backlog Items drawer. The drawer will display any initiatives, epics, or stories currently in your product backlog that are not present on the roadmap view.  ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-21-55-9978-PM.png?width=670&height=380&name=image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-21-55-9978-PM.png) 2. Drag and drop the items onto your roadmap to add them to the view. To view the details of an integrated item, or to update its information, click on the initiative, epic, or story directly on your roadmap to open the details drawer. A link back to the corresponding Jira item is located in the Integrations tab. ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-30-32-3115-PM.png?width=670&height=460&name=image-png-Sep-30-2026-09-30-32-3115-PM.png)   ### **Pushing a New Item from ProductPlan to Jira** You can push a new item into Jira from an existing initiative, epic, or story in ProductPlan. Pushing a new item is an intentional action, and can be done through the following steps. 1. Click into the initiative, epic, or story. 2. Click on the Integrations tab. 3. Select the Jira project the item should be created in. 5. Select the issue type. 6. Review the summary and adjust if needed. 7. Click Sync to Jira. 8.
