Resources for Roadmap Items
Resources let you attach the files, recordings and links that explain a piece of planned work directly to the roadmap item.
Every initiative, epic and story has a Resources tab in its item drawer. Upload a walkthrough video, attach a spec or link a prototype, and anyone viewing the roadmap can open it without asking you. One resource per item is featured. It appears at the top of the item drawer, on the item's card in board view, and in the hover tooltip on the timeline and board. Resources on roadmap items work the same way as Resources on Ideas, except for how they display on the board and timeline.

About Resources
A resource is one artifact attached to a roadmap item: either a file you upload or a link to something that lives elsewhere.
Each resource appears as a tile on the Resources tab with:
- A type badge: Video, Image, Document or URL
- A thumbnail or file-type icon
- Its name
- The upload date
- Who added it
Where resources appear:
- Resources tab of the item drawer: the full list
- General tab of the item drawer: the featured resource
- Board view card: the featured resource of the top-level item on each card
- Hover tooltip on the timeline and board: the featured resource
Opening a resource:
- Video: Plays in place in the drawer. Playback controls come from your browser, so full screen and picture-in-picture vary slightly by browser.
- Image: Opens in a larger view on the same page.
- URL: Opens in a new tab.
- Other files: Handled by your browser. PDFs usually preview in a new tab; spreadsheets usually download.

Adding Resources
You can add almost any type of resource, from videos and images to documents and URLs.
Upload a File
Uploaded files attach directly to the item and take their name from the file name.
Important: Resources can't be renamed after they're added, so rename files before uploading.
- Open a roadmap item and click the Resources tab.
- In the Add Resources card, choose Upload a File.
- Click to upload and select one or more files, or drag them onto the upload area.
- The files appear in the list once the upload finishes.

Supported files: Most common file types, including MP4, MOV, GIF, JPG, PNG, PDF, XLS, DOC and PPT, up to 250MB each. Files that are too large or an unsupported type are blocked before the upload starts.
Add a Link
Use a link for anything that can't be uploaded, like a prototype or a survey. Links appear in the list alongside your files and open in a new tab.
- In the Add Resources card, choose Add a URL.
- Enter a display name and the URL. Both are required.
- Click Add Resource.

The Featured Resource
The featured resource is the first thing people see about an item: on its board card, in its hover tooltip and at the top of its drawer. Feature the one resource that best explains the work.
The first resource you add becomes the featured one automatically. To change it:
- Open a roadmap item and click the Resources tab. The featured resource is first in the list, with a filled star.
- Click the star on another resource to feature it instead.

Note: An item with resources always has one featured resource. You can move the star to a different resource, but you can't clear it.
On the General tab, the featured resource sits above the item's fields. Editors see a Manage Resources button and viewers see View Resources. Both open the Resources tab.
Resources on the Board and Timeline
Only an item's featured resource shows on the roadmap. All other resources stay in the item drawer.
Board View
Each board card shows the featured resource of its top-level item: the initiative, or an epic or story with no parent in that view. Child items inside a card don't show their featured resource on the card, even when the top-level item has none. This keeps cards readable as more items get resources.
- Videos and images show a thumbnail preview.
- Other files and links show the file icon and name.
- Clicking the play button on a video thumbnail opens the item drawer and starts the video.
- Clicking any other resource opens the drawer with the featured resource on the General tab.
- Clicking anywhere else on the card opens the drawer as usual.

Timeline View
Timeline bars are too small to hold media, so previews don't appear on the bars themselves. Bars at the initiative, epic and story levels show a resource icon, and the featured resource appears in the item's hover tooltip.
Hover Tooltip (Timeline and Board)
Hover over an item to see its featured resource in the tooltip, alongside the item's title and dates. Videos and images show a thumbnail; everything else shows the file icon and name.
The tooltip is a preview only. Nothing in it is clickable, and videos don't play there. Click the item to open its drawer.

Working with Resources
The Resources tab lists everything attached to the item. The featured resource is first, and the rest are ordered by most recent upload.
Download a File
Anyone with access to the item, editor or viewer, can download any uploaded file.
Delete a Resource
Users with edit access to the product can delete any resource on an item, regardless of who added it.
- Open the Resources tab.
- Click the ⋮ menu on the resource.
- Select Delete Resource.
- Confirm the deletion.
Important: Deleting is permanent and can't be undone. If you delete the featured resource, the most recently uploaded remaining resource becomes featured.
FAQ
Which roadmap items can have resources?
All of them: initiatives, epics and stories, whether they were created in ProductPlan or imported from Jira or Azure DevOps.
Can resources be shared with people outside my account?
Yes. Resources display on public links as well as in the app. If an item has no resources, its Resources tab is hidden on public links.
Why doesn't a child item's resource show on the board card?
Only the top-level item on each card shows its featured resource. If the top-level item has no resources, the card shows none. Child items' resources are always available in their drawers and hover tooltips.
Can I rename a resource after adding it?
No. A resource takes its name from the file name, so rename files before uploading. To change a name, delete the resource and add it again.
Can I remove the featured resource without picking a new one?
No. An item with resources always has one featured. Starring a different resource replaces it.
Can I hide resources on a roadmap view, or choose which resources are shown?
Not at this time. Every item's featured resource shows on the board and in tooltips for everyone with access.
Do resources sync to Jira or Azure DevOps?
No. Resources stay in ProductPlan.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes. Each file can be up to 250MB. There's no limit on the number of resources per item.
