## Configuration steps for Account Admins to set up the Azure DevOps integration for their account.

### **Before You Begin**

To set up the integration, you will need:

- A ProductPlan account
- ProductPlan Account Admin access
- Azure DevOps access

    - The connecting ProductPlan Admin must be a Project Administrator on every Azure DevOps project they want to map and sync information from.

### **Setting Up Your Azure DevOps Integration**

Account Admins can set up the Azure DevOps integration for their account.

1. Click on the Manage Products tab in the navigation menu.
2. On the Manage Products page, click on the Integrations tab.
3. Select Azure DevOps.

4. Select Microsoft Entra ID and click Authenticate.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-19-2026-09-36-29-1781-PM.png?width=670&height=489&name=image-png-Oct-19-2026-09-36-29-1781-PM.png)
5. ProductPlan will find the Azure DevOps organizations that you belong to. If there is one, ProductPlan will connect automatically. If there are several, please select one.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-2.png?width=350&height=347&name=undefined-2.png)

     - If no organization is found (example: Microsoft tenant blocks profile access), select Problems connecting? and try the manual entry method. Type the organization URL as https://dev.azure.com/\<org\> or https://\<org\>.visualstudio.com
     - Some tenants require a Microsoft Admin to approve ProductPlan before anyone can sign in. Microsoft will prompt you at sign-in if this is the case.
6. Click Accept to authorize ProductPlan's access.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-26-22-5532-PM.png?width=350&height=427&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-26-22-5532-PM.png)
7. Select the Azure DevOps projects to sync information from, then click Next. You can always add additional projects later.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-27-12-4614-PM.png?width=670&height=271&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-27-12-4614-PM.png)
8. The field mapping table will display the base ProductPlan fields by default (Title, Description, Start Date, End Date).
9. Click the Add Fields button at the bottom of the table to add additional base or custom fields, or to create a new custom field.
     - To map Percent Complete, add the field to the mapping table and select Aggregate of Status Category. The Azure DevOps State Category drives percent complete updates. The calculation of parent items is based on the direct child items in ProductPlan. Stories are calculated as follows:
           - Proposed = 0%
           - In Progress =  50%
           - Completed = 100%
             ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-29-02-0727-PM.png?width=670&height=426&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-29-02-0727-PM.png)
10. For each project, set the desired Azure DevOps field to map to the corresponding ProductPlan field. You can map different fields per project to the corresponding ProductPlan field.
      - When mapping custom dropdown fields, click the arrow next to the field name to display the dropdown list. Set the Azure DevOps dropdown values to the corresponding ProductPlan values per project.
        ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-29-31-0933-PM.png?width=670&height=579&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-29-31-0933-PM.png)
      - The Start Date and End Date fields each map to one Azure DevOps date field across all work item types. As not all work item types use the same date fields, we recommend an Azure DevOps Project Administrator add the necessary date field to any work item types that don't have it yet. If a work item type doesn't have the mapped field, it cannot be scheduled on the roadmap and assigned dates.
11. For each field, set the sync direction:
      - One-way (single-direction): If this option is selected, the sync direction is one-way and only pulls information from Azure DevOps into ProductPlan, keeping Azure DevOps as the source of truth.
      - Two-way (bi-directional): If this option is selected, the field syncs in both directions. Information can be pulled from Azure DevOps, or pushed from ProductPlan to Azure DevOps. The following field types support bi-directional syncing:
            - Text fields
            - Date fields
            - Numerical fields
            - Tags/labels
            - Single-select dropdown fields
            - Multi-select dropdown fields
      - With either option, the sync is real-time and automatic. Fields that sync one-way from Azure DevOps to ProductPlan will be automatically updated in ProductPlan based on the latest updates from Azure DevOps. Fields enabled for two-way syncing will be automatically updated based on the latest updates in either system.
        ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-30-14-2121-PM.png?width=670&height=426&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-30-14-2121-PM.png)
      - Note: Some fields only sync one-way from Azure DevOps to ProductPlan and cannot be edited in ProductPlan. These are: State, Area/Iteration, Work Item Type, Team Project, rich-text fields such as Description and Acceptance Criteria, and fields Azure DevOps fills in itself, such as Reason or Closed Date.
12. Once your field mapping is complete, click Next.
13. Your Azure DevOps integration has been successfully configured.
14. Next steps:
      - To start pulling information from Azure DevOps into ProductPlan, click View Products to navigate to the Manage Products page and select the specific product you would like to pull information into.
      - Within the product's Integrations page, define a saved Azure DevOps query to import items into your product's backlog.
      - Please see [Product Settings | Azure DevOps Integration Import](https://support.productplan.com/roadmap-data-source-import-ado?hsLang=en) for instructions on these steps.

### **Deleting an Azure DevOps Integration**

The Azure DevOps integration is account-wide, so deleting the integration will delete it for everyone in the account.

When an integration is deleted, everything associated with the integration is deleted:

- Product-level configurations are deleted
- Account-level field mappings are deleted

Items that originated in ProductPlan are preserved, but their Azure DevOps integration link is severed and removed.

Account Admins have the ability to delete the integration, if desired.

1. Navigate to the Manage Products page.
2. Click on the Integrations tab.
3. Click on Azure DevOps.
4. Click the Edit button.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-30-57-7568-PM.png?width=670&height=237&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-30-57-7568-PM.png)
5. Click the Delete button next to the integration.
   ![](https://support.productplan.com/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-31-24-6555-PM.png?width=670&height=240&name=image-png-Oct-20-2026-09-31-24-6555-PM.png)
6. Type in the confirmation, then click Delete. This action cannot be undone.
